The Bible tells us, in the first book through the last, that snakes are symbolic for our enemy, the devil. In Genesis, it was a serpent that showed up as the tempter in the Garden and deceived Eve, and in Revelation he was called "the serpent of old." So, we know it's not a good thing when we dream of snakes. As a matter of fact, you can pretty well assume that when you dream of the nasty buggers, snakes are symbolic for some kind of demonic influence going on in your life.
The color and kind of snake in your dream, and the actions they are taking, help you determine how the enemy is attempting to mess with you. For example, a white snake often indicates a religious spirit working in your thinking, causing you to act or react in a religious manner rather than by fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, and peace). A yellow snake indicates a spirit of fear; a rattlesnake symbolizes anger or a mean-spirited attitude; a python means a spirit of divination; and a snake with a man's face is symbolic for a man-pleasing spirit. If the snake is chasing you, it means the devil is chasing after you. If there is one at your door, then the enemy is hanging around waiting to see if there is a way he can get into your life. If it bites you in the dream, it symbolizes you have succumbed to its influence.
There can be good news about snake dreams, though. Killing a snake in a dream makes it a good dream! This symbolizes that, in reality, we saw the enemy's attack against us and dealt with him rightly. In these dreams, the Lord could be showing us that the attack is over and we handled it well. Sometimes after praying for deliverance or healing, we will have a dream that we killed a snake, or that a very attractive, muscular good guy (the Lord) killed it for us.
When you dream of snakes, ask the Lord to help you see what exact kind of demonic influence is attacking you and how to handle it. Sometimes you will need to repent, or get some inner-healing, and other times you'll need to pray and take a stand against the attack. In any case, the Lord's intention in giving you the dream is to help you see what's going on behind the scenes, so you can be free of every kind of demonic influence and attack, that you can live the free and abundant life He died to provide for you.
